Research Project

About the project...

Changes in education systems caused, among other reasons, by digitization and the social changes connected with them have been imposed in all countries. Portugal started in 2016, in the form of “pilot projects”, a curricular and organizational change aimed at encouraging the autonomy of schools/groups to better respond to different audiences in various contexts. These experiences contributed to the publication in 2018 of the Law Decrees nº. 54/2018 and nº. 55/2018 of July 6th, which rearrange the curriculum and school organization.

In 2020, for unpredictable reasons - the Covid-19 pandemic - schools, in the course of this ongoing process, had to adapt, from day to day, to a remote education, a modality previously unknown.

Objectives

The research project ACT4WBeing aims at studing the relationship between curriculum autonomy and teacher engagement and well-being, between the years 2016 to 2023 in Portugal.

Operationalization

This study will use quantitative and qualitative methodologies as follows:

i) Extended questionnaire to teachers.

ii) Participatory and collaborative research in 3 schools using action research procedures.

The conduct of this research can contribute to a better understanding of the processes of building and involvement in curricular autonomy, from its most direct actors - the teachers and the schools - as well as the relationships existing between curriculum autonomy and the engagement and well-being of teachers.
